Recalling a Friend
Recalling a Friend
You come here one, two and three,
Wriggling, giggling, tactless and free,
Flakes floating zigzag; one lovely day,
Clutching flakes; O what a jolly way!
He came quickly, from the riverside,
He was impatient; would soon glide,
Down a sharp steep, of a snowy hill,
With awe he would; our hearts chill.
We beheld him; pass a weird clown!
Drooling, and in jet black and brown,
Always an ace he had, up his sleeve,
Fallen ill, leaving our minds to grieve.
Nimble; and he would chase the gale,
His breaths steaming, down the dale,
Giggling, tricking, and ambling along,
Fidgeting, loving, playing and strong!
A beloved darling; he was of the class,
Shalt bring his comrades, oft' to a pass,
And trick them into a snare, ah so fast,
Shame a devil; such his brain was cast.
An ape he was; up he would climb a tree,
Twining and frisking; he were of will free,
Squirming, squeezing, clasping to the top,
Shame a squirrel; he would jump and hop.
Sneaking; he would hurriedly come around,
Scrambling; he would mount a snow mound,
Then a rolling fast; soft snow into an icy ball,
He would aim at me; just on a whistle’s call.
Who kneweth? He lives in my memory alive,
Working and striving; a bee 'twert in its hive,
A superb trickster, as he wouldst love please,
With his sharp wits; he would my mind seize.
In the memory of my chum, if he may read,
A face I’ll cherish, and breathe thru my reed,
In days that wert yet to come, I’ll sing a song,
Sizzling with ardor and relish, amid a throng.
