And What More!

                     And What More!

Whither they? Who have dismayed me!

Inch by inch they hadst often bitten me,

In mine flowery youth or this hoary age,

They had oft’ nibbled me with fiery rage.

And they had applied their suckers deep,

Holding fast in my veins they would keep,

To the last drop of blood they must feast,

Stark brutality aye they shamed the beast.

They had whipped me hard day and night,

Until I had escaped and were out of sight,

Over the edifice; and I were seen no more!

I was banished and they banged their door!

They wouldn’t weep one tiny tear for me,

Jubilant and un-reined they were set free,

They swayed blissful and with the airs high,

Aye their senses beclouded and faces awry!

I lingered my moments and my life was past,

A tortured one; and I was the relished repast;

Each syllable sliced me deep as never before!

And was gored down deep ah to my very core!

They were relentless and must pity me not,

At the verge of annihilation I were brought!

Ah not once but times often I wouldst fain;

On gruesome altar I were mercilessly slain!

Merry making! They would waltz around;

Sniffing my blood ah must shame a hound,

Still craving for more and kept open wide;

Their eyes gloating and themselves beside!

Cruelty had attired anew in an alien costume,

And I were burnt to ashes lo smoke and fume,

In the ghastly abyss; none was around or near,

In an inferno alone, the leaping flames to bear!

Their appetite appeased not; as they would!

They hadst tarnished my fancy as they could,

Blood thirsty; they hadst stifled my wild cries,

Naked beasts they gamboled neath the skies!

Known to everyone they wore tarnished name,

The infamous and stubborn and void of shame,

For their wantonness people had known them!

But they hadst failed subdue the sparkling gem!

A day shall come whence they shall repay;

With knitted brows ah furrowed in dismay,

Blind and deaf yea they would tread along!

Rough shod upon; must pay for the wrong!

Asking in their bewilderment; “Was I dead,

Over the strange apparition; someone said,

“Because he were not like many laid to rest,

On the scripture page aye he appears blest”
