A word to an adolescent

            A word to an adolescent

Around us all, there are a host of virtues,

Covert, a few overt, in shades and values,

Ramifying path, verging on a straight line,

Queer, so unique that would soon shine!

Reign in thy fancies; ere you must dive,

With thy pure heart, and the senses five,

Thru the muddle, of this dreadful world,

The web’s wound, to tangles and curled.

Hold a rein tight, on wishes and fantasies,

On blather, the deceits and loved fancies,

Lend all, your patient ears, to some voice.

Keep calm and never betray, thine choice!

Not the least, thou must mind thine ears,

‘Cause a word may creep in and so bears

On thy ego, molding it to a nasty change,

Of lust and greed, blaring a saga strange!

Adapt thyself to truth, and not to might,

Never to what lures, thy untutored sight,

Shun the doubtful, for that leads astray

And haplessly; you’ll be laid on the way!

You the untutored naïve, my dear child,

A fancy flames thy mind, ah turn it wild,

The flamboyant spurs, truly very hollow,

Blot the days in offing, the sinful sorrow.

Beware! The bread of deceit tastes sweet,

Deeply loved and prized, ah ‘twas a cheat,

The masked Lucifer’s crafted tricks and lure,

Slaves of fantasy, keen to paint sham cure!

Somewhere in heart, a word begs thy ears,

Thy chaste soul’s flutter, of imminent fears,

Were it the swish of angels in a grisly night?

Picture thee morrow, aye you were to write.

Let you be the one, the world who will stir,

Noble desires to cherish, as ever they were,

A flambeau ye blaze, glaze the dark to light,

Aspire to heavens above, be gallant thy fight.

Resolute! May thou never waver or go astray,

Time slips away unnoticed, ah worth of today,

Span is limited, work is hard and long, beware!

Thy strides, selfless and stately, a devil ye dare.
