A friend remembered
A friend remembered
What’s friendship and what did we seek,
Our dreams come true, strong and weak,
Those youthful passions, betwixt us two,
Shall haunt me ever, and perhaps you too.
Pondering into the past, when I steal a peep,
I can dig out thine beloved face, buried deep,
In my paltry remembrance, you’d lived safe,
Since we parted, the seat of rub and chafe!
Aye thither I unveil, aye memoirs of the past,
In unfailing harmony, comradeship shall last
Therein I shalt catch, heart and my love true,
In the heart and soul true, we the loved two.
Fragrance of gardens, shall roll my days back,
With the loving memoirs, shall my heart pack?
In one swipe back, I evoked you frisk and play,
Plucking beautiful flowers, in their lovely sway
’Twert not memories, but my cherished shelter,
Therein to rest my soul, in despair and swelter,
So cozy and comforting, simulate mother’s lap,
With the welcome warmth, I tide over the gap.
O friend! Of our piteous parting since long,
Ah the world has done me, grievous wrong,
In solitude I loiter about, bewailing around,
A leaf stirs naught, nay I hear a faint sound.
Stranger is this world, I am alien to the world,
Deaf to unfamiliar voice, in a paradox hurled!
See me, O my dear friend; ah where far below
Life’s dispirited wheels but roll, dead and slow.
O my flitting thought! How come life and time,
Both chant together their joys, in a dull chime,
But time possessed a sickle, with cutting edge,
It hewed down life, and solemnized its pledge.
And if ever I wert asked, the scenario to paint,
Labyrinth with cross rows, and nefarious taint,
Aye thine adorable virtues. Ah may only atone,
The load of bereavement, thereto I had grown.
Take my wails holy or unholy, right or wrong,
In the silent night, I will whine away my song,
To the breezy winds, cruising yonder and afar,
And hoping ’twill salve, aye the long lived scar.
